Fall, my favorite season of the year.  Gone are the hot, sticky nights and days. I no longer need to hunt for shade.  Fall is tailgating and touch football, socially distanced and with masks and gloves this year. I love my summer beers, which are refreshing and quenching. For fall I'm in the mood for more savory, rich full bodied beers and foods. These are beers made for squash soup and roasted meats.

1) Lawson's Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine: Sean Lawson created a excellent big IPA, just the right balance of tropical fruit and west coast piney notes. This quickly became a favorite of mine as soon as Sean started having Two Roads produce this for the NY, CT markets, finally sharing with us his expert craftsmanship that had only previously been available at a few places in Vermont. Sip is a bright treat any day, whether the sun is shining or not. 8%

2) Zero Gravity Cone Head: Another great IPA from the great state of Vermont. The Green Mountain State really churns out outstanding beers. This one is not a session IPA but has a low enough ABV to make it possible to enjoy a couple of these. A single hop Citra IPA has a nice nose with a pleasing bitterness. 5.7%

3) Rothaus Pils Tannen Zapfle: From the Black Forest in Germany comes this delicious pilsner. This is one of Top Hops most popular beers. Every time a German comes into Top Hops they are overjoyed to find this in the fridge. A crisp, clean, bitter, balanced beer. The Germans know a little something about lagers and this is one of the best beers from Germany I have ever had. 5.1%

4) Sullivan's Maltings Irish Red Ale: Fall is here. The days and nights are getting cooler, the leaves will be turning and I like a maltier beer with this weather. An Irish Red Ale from Kilkenny Ireland. Maltings has a rich, balanced flavor with biscuity yeast flavors. A nice blend of sweet and bitter. It pours a ruby red with a tan head. I have really been enjoying this beer. 5%

5) Bells's Best Brown: This is Bell's seasonal offering. Every fall I look forward to this beer. Brown Ales are underappreciated in my opinion. Best Brown has a nice body without being heavy, caramel color with a slightly sweet taste, just a little toasty. A real "comfort" beer. 5.8% ABV

6) Dogfish Head Punkin Ale: Dogfish Head brews this with real pumpkin and brown sugar. Punkin' has nice kick with fall flavors without being overpowering. This is my favorite pumpkin beer. A real cool weather treat. 7% ABV
